Adding a new field for the track author would be fine if I didn't use Majestic CMS for other sites. It would only make sense in the context of lyricless.com, and even then I think it would be better for the track author to be the poster. Otherwise people might think it's OK to post other people's music without their consent. That is a road we probably don't want to go down.
Tags would help in other areas besides this, so that might be the best way to go.
Thanks for the feedback! :)

The recent home page changes include an A-Z of artists, so I think this is taken care of.

Maybe it would be a good idea to add a different field for the song's author. I mean, with the current fields it's assumed that the post author is also the track author, but the current experience shows that this is not always true.
So just adding a single field to both the post creation form and the database would improve a lot the searchs and the classification.
Another useful field could be some kind of 'tags', defined by the user (like the tags that are used in sites like flickr.com and all the Web 2.0), so users could group the content by those tags.
Well, just a couple ideas. ;-)
